n response to the factual assessment of the performance of the present Osun State Government in Oba-Oke and Oba-Ile by a respected son of the soil, Alhaji Abdukabir Ajisope, last week, the Osun State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Kolapo Alimi, through his *Osun Political Update* programme, once again resorted to what many have come to regard as half-truths and inaccurate claims.
As many will recall, Alhaji Ajisope visited Oba-Oke and Oba-Ile alongside journalists and photographers to document the difficult realities facing the people.
The visit highlighted the deplorable condition of the communities, where basic infrastructure has deteriorated significantly. Federal and state roads passing through the twin towns have collapsed and require complete reconstruction, while many internal roads have become virtually impassable, overgrown with weeds and giving the impression of neglected communities.
In his response, Hon. Kolapo Alimi argued that the roads shown by Ajisope were internal roads and therefore the responsibility of the local government, suggesting that the state government bears no responsibility for their condition. He further claimed that since the APC controls the local government administration under local government autonomy, responsibility for those roads rests solely with the local councils.
If the Commissioner now admits that the Adeleke administration has no control over local government allocations, then he should explain why the situation in Ede, the Governor's hometown, is remarkably different. We challenge him to show any road in Ede that resembles the deplorable conditions seen in Oba-Oke and Oba-Ile.
The roads in Ede are newly constructed and generally in good condition. If these projects were not funded by the local government, then it raises legitimate questions about whether state resources have been disproportionately concentrated in the Governor's hometown at the expense of other communities across Osun State.
The Commissioner also claimed that two schools were constructed in Oba. This is inaccurate and a tissue of lie. The two primary schools in question were renovated by the Oyetola administration. The two communities had no project to their name in almost 4 years of the present government.
Similarly, the claim about the provision of a borehole and the refurbishment of a health centre is a figment of Kolapo's imagination as there is no evidence of such projects in either Oba-Oke or Oba-Ile.
Beyond the internal roads, the inter-town and inter-local government roads connecting these communities remain overgrown with weeds and are in a deplorable condition, making movement difficult for residents and visitors alike.
Alhaji Abdukabir Ajisope has no intention of engaging in a war of words with the Commissioner. Instead, he has presented photographs and other visual evidence to illustrate the realities in his community. We therefore invite Hon. Kolapo Alimi to visit Oba-Oke and Oba-Ile and present similar photographic evidence of the developmental projects his government claims to have executed in the two communities.
Public office demands honesty, accountability, and transparency.
While Hon. Kolapo Alimi has the right to defend his "pot of soup" that responsibility should be discharged with facts rather than statements that can easily be challenged by the realities on the ground.
